Beautiful beaches, enchanting islands, diverse flora and fauna, forest retreats and magnificent mountains. Climate Average temperature is between 21-32° C. Humidity is high. Rainfall between November to February on the east coast of the peninsula Malaysia, the western Sarawak and north-eastern Sabah. The west coast of the Malaysian peninsula has rainy seasons during April-May and October-November. The capital Kuala Lumpur, or "KL" as it is commonly known, is the focal point of new Malaysia. The Petronas Twin Towers are 452 meters high. It is the world's second highest structure and was built in 1998. Tickets are free but have to be picked up personally from tuesday to sunday 10:00 - 12:45 and 15:00 - 16:45. The towers' design and architecture are inspired by Islamic art with a modern outlook, reflected by its steel and glass facade. At the 41st. floor, a sky bridge connects the two towers, and offers the visitors a fantastic view over of the surrounding city. At the base of the Twin Towers is a popular market called Suria KLCC. The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra is also located inside the Towers' base. Outside, there is a beautifully-landscaped park where visitors can conduct recreational exercise or simply stroll around the marble paths and admire the fountains and flowers. There is also a wading pool which free for children to swim in. Airport Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) is located in Sepang, approx. 50 km away from Kuala Lumpur City. The high-speed KLIA Ekspres links the airport directly with the KL Sentral transportation hub in Kuala Lumpur in 28mins. Trains run from 5:00 am to 12:00 midnight. There is one train every 15mins. People Malaysia is one of the most racially, ethnically and religiously diverse nations in the world. All of the world's major religions, as well as major Asian ethnic groups are represented. In this relatively tiny area, peace thrives as the various groups co-exist in harmony and tolerance; complementing one another to enrich the shared character, cultural mosaic and vision of the nation. Languages Bahasa Melayu is the national language, but English is widely spoken and is the language of business. Cantonese, Hokkien and Hakka are spoken by Malaysia's Chinese population and Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi among the Indian population. Religion Islam is the official religion but all other religions are practised freely. Culture It is recommended to remove shoes before entering homes and places of worship. When eating or exchanging money, the right hand is used. Arms and legs should be covered when visiting places of worship. Currency The Malaysian Ringit RM or MYR, also referred to as the Malaysian Dollar, is divided into 100 sen. Major credit cards are accepted. Banking hours: Monday to Friday 09:30 till 15:00 Saturday 09:30 till 11:30. Note: Banks in Sabah open at 8.00 am and take a lunch break from 12.00 pm - 2.00 pm. Driving Car rentals are available. Minimum age is 18 years with a valid provincial driver's license. An international driver's license is required. Driving is British-style - on the left side of the road. Electricity Voltage is 220 - 240 volts, 50Hz. UK-style three-pin plugs are used. Telephone The international access code for Malaysia is +60 (0060) Time Malaysia is 8 hours ahead of the Greenwich Meridian Time (GMT) Visa Informations Every person entering Malaysia must possess a valid National Passport or Internationally recognized Travel Document valid for travel to Malaysia. The documents must be valid, for more than six (6) months from the date of entry into Malaysia. For Swiss and nationals of EU countries for stays up to 3 months (except nationals of Ireland for stays up to 2 months and Greece and Portugal for stays of up to 1 month) there is not required a visa. For other nationalities we recommend to ask further informations. Important: All visitors must also have proof of adequate funds and an onward or return sea or air ticket. Health No vaccinations are required for entry. Bottled water is advisable in rural areas. Security Malaysia is a very safe country to travel.
